Welcome to the 105th Edition of the overland travellers' e-zine! Wow, 2016 is almost over, and we're back in cold, wet Canada for the winter. This time of year the only thing to look forward to in the northern hemisphere is December 21, when the days start getting longer again! (Bet you thought I was going to say the holiday season!)
What have we been doing with ourselves? Firstly, we're only just home from our final travels of 2016. We were away for over a month organizing the HUMM in Spain, then on to South Africa for our travellers meeting there. We actually had almost a week of spectacular on and off-road riding afterwards, thanks to our wonderful host, Kobus Fourie, aided and abetted by Kevin Davis, on a new 1200 GSA borrowed from Daly Motorrad. Sweet!
We're hard at work helping our local volunteers to organize almost 25 overland adventure travellers meetings and events for 2017. These include major meetings in Virginia, Germany, HUBB UK, Ireland, Montenegro, Switzerland, Ontario, North Carolina, France, Queensland, California, Perth, South Africa, and the Australian Snowy Mountains! HUMMs are back! In 2016, we organized 2 Horizons Unlimited Mountain Madness events in Canada and Spain, which were hugely successful. For 2017, we're planning 3 HUMMs - Sierras de España in Aragon, Spain, the Monashees in BC, Canada and the Appalachians in Maryland, USA (and possibly India)! What is a HUMM? We're well stuck into the major upgrade of the website, and we've recently launched the new blogging system with many new features for travellers, including the ability to easily enter information to benefit other travellers. Migrating hundreds of blogs from the existing to the new system has been a challenge, but we're very pleased with the results! Thanks to Rachel, our uber Drupal developer, we've now also got the underpinnings in place to support new types of content, so stay tuned...
Where are our intrepid travellers this issue?
We've got great stories from Bolivia, Germany, Peru, Poland, Iran, Malaysia, Montenegro, Indonesia, China, Honduras, New Zealand, Morocco, Russia, Mexico, Rwanda, Slovenia, Romania, USA and even Alberta, Canada!
...And those are just the ones we tracked down! What about you? Get out there on the road and make your own adventure, and don't forget to write! Seriously, there are so many travellers out there now that it's hard for me to keep up with them all. If you send me a couple of paragraphs and pics every month you'll have a much better chance of making it into the e-zine! We try to link to your blog/website if you have one. If you don't have a blog, we can help!
