We are Ken & Carol Duval from Brisbane, Australia. In 1983 we met, Ken was the motorcyclist and Carol the traveller. We combined our passions and in 1985 rode around Australia and New Zealand for 9 months on a Honda CX650.

It took another 12 years before we ventured off again, this time on a 1981 BMW R80 G/S. It was to be an 18 month journey around the world to mostly first world countries. This soon changed once on the road. We arrived home 4 years, 2 months and 17 days later having covered more than 200,000 kms through North & Central America, UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, Asia and South East Asia. We had run out of money (again) in Africa and arrived home owing AUD$20,000 on credit cards. For 6 years we worked hard and the only release was having about 60 overland travellers stay with us. It was great to pass on the hospitality we were shown on our journey. Having met Grant & Susan Johnson in Europe in 1999 we tried to spread the word about overland travelling by organising three HU Meetings in Australia.

In 2007 we sold the house and most of our belongings and flew out in September to Santiago, Chile for our 2nd RTW on the same BMW. We had planned 18 months in South America and stayed 3 years. The German boat, the Stahlratte took us from Colombia to Panama and we travelled through Central America to Mexico, United States and Canada. In 2014 the Stahlratte also took us to Cuba. 

2015 saw us leave North America for South Korea, Japan, cross Russia and Mongolia to Europe. 2016 to 2019 was spent travelling in the UK and Europe. 2020 will hopefully see us back in Africa. The journey continues...
