Leymebamba, Celendin, Cajamarca…
Country

We spent two nights in Leymebamba, a nice small town in an acceptable hotel (La Petaca) with ocean (main quarter) view, we already needed a rest. This town is well known for a Museum dedicated to the Chachapoyas Culture, they have 261 mummies among many other archeological and ethnographic remains found in the “Laguna de los Cóndores”, a famous lake located at 2 or 3 days walk to the Southeast.

Already “fresh”, we took the road to Celendin, 144km of an incredible 1 lane, all paved, high octane road with thousands of curves and cliffs that took us about 5 hours. Extremely beautiful. Then a nice 2 lane paved road to Cajamarca. Total distance for the day 247km.

There is a long gravel road from Celendin to Bambamarca, for those willing to get some more excitement and skip Cajamarca.
