DAY FIVE

Day five 2 September 08

Retornac - Millau

miles 914

Weather realy nice, not to hot or cool but dry and sunny. Set of around 11:00 from the house in good fettle. The bike was handleing much better now the wieght has been lost and shifted around, a bit more wieght over the front wheel made a world of difference. Lunch in Le Puy (Le P-we apparently) it is a great town, there is a huge statue of the Madona and child built by the same people who built the Statue of Liberty I am told except this one appears rusty sa if built of bricks, which is what my wife, three friends and I thought when we first saw it two years ago. Well worth a visit as there are said to be stairs up to the top inside the figure.
On we went towards Millau and that bridge. it has been a day of facination and wonder, the viaducts and terain they span are awesome and the Gorge de Tarn itself a sight to behold. Just to add to the beuty of the area we were watched over by Kites and Common Buzzards much of the way, fantastic birds. then as we crest a "hill" we see the bridge in the distance rising like a clipper in the mist she was with full sails. We have yet to go over her and below, there is devided opinion as to which is the better view, in fact we have been told of a third view this evening but that is weather dependant, as they all are I surpose.
for anyone comming this way hwo does not wish to camp there is a B+B not far from the bridge, set up by a German couple' for bikers. the address is www.
So, tonight we camp by the Tarn river in Millau, in the RAIN again! Tommorrow..................?
