Mainland Mexico

The street from Mazatlan to Durango is called „the devils spine“. A few thousend curves wind their way through the mountains.

Zacatecas and Guanajuato are the city we liked the best here in the colonial heartland of Mexico. Guanajato is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tunnels below Guanajuato provide a fascination driving experience. We stayed in „Casa Kloster“ where we met a few other motorcycle and bicycle travellers.

Driving on the curvy roads through the mountains, our radion communication system is quite usefull again. While overtaking trucks the rider in the front can easily tell the rider(s) behind if the street is clear. The radion communication is also usefull to coordinate picture stopps as well as to communicate any other need of any of the riders.

If moving further apart than our radios can send we have our Sonim Phones as a backup communication device. Those phones are incredibly sturdy. We even use them sometimes to drive in tent nails. Further they are not at all damaged hanging around in a non water or dustproof outer pocket of the jacket.

Visiting cities, our pacsafe stuffbags are of excelent value. We stuffed our camoing gear in one of the bags locked it to the bikes and strapped it down with normal bag straps. Together with a small lockable bag for the helmets, you can leave your fully loaded bike in almost any place without having to worry that any part of your equipment will be damaged or stolen till you return. There is no need to carry all your gear around or to search for secure parking. Sometimes we even put our pants and jackets in one of the bags and lock that to the bikes. So if the weather is hot we can walk around in shorts and have all our stuff securely attached to the bikes.

After visiting the pyramids at Tula and Teotihuacan we visited a colleague of Bjoern in Cordoba and will now head to the next UNESCO site: Oaxaca.
