It starts at the beginning

Don't worry about planning everything to the last detail, you aren't going to achieve 100%. Get the basics sorted and get going and just get used to being on the road - afterall, that's where you really want to be and that's where you will really find your feet.I wasn't going to write a blog for various reasons, but changed my mind because of how important HU and other people's advice has been for me during the planning and most of all during the trip itself.

So first and foremost a big thanks to everyone who I have read, met and spoken too. This will hopefully be repayment for your help.

Advice number 1: You won't get everything right and whatever you do, there will be things you need to sort out on the way. Don't stress too much about your kit. You will soon throw things out you thought were essential! :)

Each country has it's habits and ways of doing things, find these and you will be more than half way there. A friendly smile and taking your time will manage the rest.
Get going and get used to being on the road. If in doubt, ask someone.

About my trip:
It started with work boredom and resignation, carried on as Christmas in Morocco and is turning into 'if I keep going south, I will end up in Cape Town you say?'.
I have an F800GS which is practical and replaced my old Africa Twin which I loved and miss a bit...sniff

I am going to try and keep this blog about the best bits and the formal bits to help others in getting through the paperwork and formalities of the trip.

I am also going to upload most pictures to my flickr account with one or two posted here to help save HU on bandwidth! :)

Last bit I promise: If anyone has any questions, advice, or want so to meet up en route drop me a line either here on HU or on my hotmail account - hans_helbig[at]hotmail[dot]com / tel +447782392370.
