Planning

Date of update

About the trip planningFirst idea was to ship it, because of the lower costs, but finally I took the airfreight - it isn't that more expensive and I guess I have less problems about the desired date of arrival.
So I made my internet-investigations and have found the horizonsunlimited.com page!
Here I saw a few interesting entries and so I've got to the motorcycleeypress.com site.

How I got there

A short description of my journey to VancouverHello Folks!
Now a little bit about my flight to Vancouver. I left at noon Munich and finally I've arrived in Vancouver at the airport about 6 pm.
So that means I had a total of travel time of about 15 hours.
And as I arrived there was no baggage!
I was asking for it and I've been told that it has not even left Munich!
So they try to get it until Friday 13th.

The jetlack was really bad and I couldn't really sleep a long time!
More coming soon!!!

Discover the Island

Date of update

Now here a short description of my days on Vancouver Island.I've started on Monday, 15th and the ferry to Swartz Bay was excellent. Blue sky, warm weather and then good roads to Victoria.
I've made a short visit there and then got up until Lake Cowichan.
The next days I've been in Port Alberni, Sproat Lake, Tofino (on the windy west coast), where I've watched some grey whales.
The back the road superb "biker-road" to Port Alberni, with stops at Kennedy Lake, Cathedral Grove, English Man waterfalls.

A tour up north

Date of update

Here's now a little bit about the ferry to Bella CoolaThe ship got off on saturday evening at 9.30 pm and it was filled up with over 200 people!
Because of the lack of sleeping chairs, I've taken my sleeping bag and slept on the floor.
Most of the people have been "Natives", who wanted to get off at Bella-Bella next morning.
They are friendly people!

The best city on Canada

Date of update

A short report about my days in VancouverAfter the arrival I had get over the jetlack, but it was very interesting to see this city!

They've built a lot of new "towers" and the city is bustling of life!

I went to Downtown, Gastown, Stanleypark, the University of British Columbia, have benn at the Jericho Beach, which is very close to the hostel where I've spent the first 5 days of my trip.

The weather weren't that bad (it had no rain, but was a little bit cool and very cloudy), and on sunday it changed to a beautiful day, with lots of sunshine and over 25 degrees!

Cowboy country and mountains

Date of update

I've been only a short time in this wonderful countrysideStarting the day in Bella Coola tokk its time, because "The Hill" 60 km east of the village is only open between noon and one pm!
So a long breakfast was a good idea and then I travelled with not more than 60 km/h through this beautiful valley!
The weather was great and finally I've arrived at the hill 20 min before opening.
It is a gravel road over the Heckman Pass (over 1500 m high) and on one part it has about 18%!
But it was dry and so problem to get over it.

Back in the rockies

Date of update

After 20 years I've done it again in the rockies to the wonderful town of Jasper! In the morning the weather wasn't looking that good, but it was dry until I've come to the Helmcken Falls in the Park.
It's a great Fall and after that I run back down again.
On the way just before Clearwater I've met the two couples again and we left with the best wishes for each other.

I went on to Jasper, now the first time with a few showers on the way to Mount Robson.
Unlucky that this mountain (the highest in the rockies with almost 4000 m) was in the clouds.

Banff National Park

Date of update

Now my days in the oldest Park of CanadaWhen I started in Jasper, I had a wonderful weather, it seems to be better and better each day!

So I took my time and made a lot of pictures on the way to the Saskatchewan River Crossing, where turned of on Highway 11 until Nordegg.
There I wanted to travel on the "Foresty Trunk Road", but almost 300 km on this gravel road wouldn't be really good, so I turned back again and went on to the Columbian Icefields.
I slept on night on a rustical campground at the Moscito Creek and the next day I went on until Banff.

At the southeastern end

Date of update

A little bit about my travels down south to Waterton National ParkHere we go again - Whe I started in the morning from Banff Campground, I just got my stuff dry on the bike.
But then the thunderstorm started only a few kilometers later!

Montana and Kootenay + Banff

Date of update

This is the US-Part and back again to the Rockies at BanffIn the morning I've left Waterton after a good breakfast at the Northland Lodge, I had luck with the weather because it was really not good looking, especially when I've arrived at the Glacier Natinoal Park in Montana.
But It still kept dry and I've got the Logans Pass without rain.

It's really a pity that the weather wasn't as good as the landscape, but it is wonderful here.

In the afternoon I moved on to Whitefish and then Eureka near the border.

Through the Rockies one last time

Date of update

Going on to the smaller National Parks in the rockiesI've tried last night to meet the former owner of the Lodge, but unfortunately he hasn't been in his restaurant.

So on the next day I checked out at the lodge (wasn't really a cheap stay) and I've started to go on west on a beautiful morning!

First was a stop at the Lake Louise Ski Area; they had build a lot new houses there, but it reminded me to the skidays we had here a few years ago.

The hottest place in Canada!?

Date of update

Now a few words about the Okanagan Valley with sunshine, orchards and vinyards! The morning in Nelson was again a sunny one and by packing my bike I've met two other Canadians on bikes who wanted to go up to Revelstoke but they didn't want to go over Kaslo.

In the morning I've decided to go back earlier to Germany despite the inflammation was getting a little better, but I didn't want to challenge!

So I phoned to "Motorcycleexpress" and about two hours later I should call them again to get a new departure date for my motorbike.

Back into the Mountains

Date of update

Let's get out of the hot valley into the Manning PP and then up north until Lillooet.
At least going back through Whistler to Vancouver!Another hot morning and I took my time to pack all my stuff slowly on the bike.
Some of my neighbours (Germans and Welsh) were talking to me and finally I left to get into the Manning P.Park in the Csacade Mountains.

The day was hot again and also in the mountains it didn't cool down really!

In the Park I found a nice rustic campground and drove around a bit.In the evening it cooled down a little bit and I enjoyed my campfire.

Closing the circle

Date of update

My last days in Canada, in the wonderful city of Vancouver and my way back home again!Gitte, which I've met at the hostel in Radium some two weeks ago, has written me an email that she and her brother will stay in downtown by some friends they met in the rockies.
So on the next day I walked around in the city alone and bought some stuff.
It was getting again a sunny day, after the morning was wet from rain in the night.

In the afternoon the temperature have been again over 30 degrees and I went to the beach.
