My Travels - Mexico 2014

Date of update

last minute details that must be taken care of before I leave, bit of background. It is early November, my "To Do" list has been eliminated, the last minute shopping has been done, I have kissed my kids and grandkids goodbye, and I am closing up the "Hideout" (my RV/living arrangement near Austin, Texas). Just in time too, there is a Polar Vortex headed this way and I really don't do cold weather! I have had continuing issues to deal with in my preparations, bike parts back ordered, mis-ordered and delayed, changing out my chain and sprockets was easy after I got the parts!

Riding the Wind 2014

Getting on the road, the first few days of travel thru Creel, Mexico, Copper Canyon, Durango, Aquas Calientes, Leon, then onto Acapulco. The polar vortex has followed me down into Mexico. It has been cold by my riding standards, but a great opportunity to try out some of the warm weather gear I brought. I rode into Creel with the intention of taking the train trip thru Barrancas de cobre (Copper Canyon). Chatting with the locals and scoping things out for myself made me decide not to take that ride. The canyon is beautiful both from the top and from within.

Puerto EscondidoI have made it to what I consider a desirable city along the Pacific. Puerto Escondido. I had intended to go further south before cranking up the hover mode, but this is good. There was supposed to be a surfing and bikini contest this weekend. As usual, you should have been here last weekend. This weekend is a sailfishing tournament they are small and worthless to eat too!! The state of Oaxaca has some Mayan ruins, some great twisty roads, good food including seafood and moles, and heck, I'm old and need to relax!
