Norfolk to Timbuktu

At the airport were we'll be re-united with our bikes.It all starts tomorow morning 4th January 2008.
This is the plan:
6:30 flight out of Norwich to Amsterdam with wife Marjatta and daughter Sarah.
In Amsterdam see them onto the flight to Helsinki, a couple of hours later I fly to Lisbon. Hotel on Friday night then meet with Nick Sanders and the other punters at the airport were we'll be re-united with our bikes.Day 1 Lisbon to Algeciras 560 Km
Day 2 Algeciras to Volubilis 100Km + 170 Km
Day 3 Volubilis to Merzouga 500 Km

Arrived ok, hotel pleasantly warm

We're on the way will keep watch for news and discuss tonight in the hotel

After asking Dad to let me know how he was getting on, especially due to the news of terror in Mauratania, here is what he said:

Plan is to go to border and assess then maybe go to the main city on a safe road. We are about to have a meal, we're in the Sahara desert.

Up at 5.30am this morning, took a camel ride to the top of the sand dunes and watched the sunrise over the Sahara desert.

(Unfortunately he forgot to mention where abouts in the Sahara?!)

Just Had the best days riding. Great roads, fantastic scenery.

Hotel is spectacular, on top of a cliff with terrific views to valleys and mountains.

13/01/08Arrived in neuokchott as planned. Tomorrow is rest day, going to change tyres. Lots of donkeys pulling trafiic and crazy traffic!

Sleeping tonight in an Arab tent, in the middle of nowhere. Just watched a sheep being buthered that we're having for dinner tonight.

Made it! Timbuktu has plently of sand.
