Canada to Patagonia 2up
Follow this story by emailMost people dream of riding around the world before they decide to finally set off and do it. But Fiona and I kind of fell into it all. We quit our jobs in November 2018 and rented out our flat in order to travel the world. After spending the winter travelling all across South East Asia we decided to fly out to the US and spend 3 months riding across it. We didn't have a clue about Adventure Bikes. We just knew they were built for these kind of adventures so we started doing some research. We ended up purchasing a BMW F800 GS which happened to be fully customised for off-road adventure. The guy who sold it to us advised us to do some basic off road training. He knew someone in Idaho and set it all up for us. The training gave me some confidence riding across gravel and dirt roads and taught me that it's okay to fall off. After riding across the USA we fell in love with it all. We wanted to keep going and decided to ride all the way down to Patagonia. Our off road skills would improve along the way as we had to overcome many situations where I felt completely out of my depth. But we made it and each time we got a little bit better and a little more confident. By the time we arrived in South America we coudln't imagine this adventure to ever end and our little US roadtrip had turned into a full on round-the-world motorcycle adventure. Unfortunately the pandemic really messed up with our travel plans. After isolating for a month in an AirBnB flat in Bogota, we decided to fly home and return as soon as we could. We were gutted. But we needn't be as given the circumstances we still had a pretty awesome summer. Triumph Germany decided to help us out and allowed us to ride their brand-new Tiger 900 Rally Pro across Europe. We had a fantastic time riding through the Alps and even took part in the Adventure Ride Competition (ARC). Due to the on-going pandemic we decided to spend the winter working on our website www.advtravelbug.com and cut all our video footage to start a YouTube channel. We've watched fellow ADV Travellers return to their bikes in Africa and Colombia and we are about to follow suit in March to continue our adventure.
