The Plan

Date of update

28/7/09
This is the first entry in our blog and is really an introduction to our intention for the trip and also to check that everyone who is interested, can access the blog
We intend to leave Anchorage on the 15th of August, as long as there are no problems getting the bike from the airport. We will then ride north to Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic coast, this is the most northerly point accessable by road, I think, we will then turn to drive south for the majority of the Americas part of the journey.

We are now in Anchorage Alaska, we arrived yesterday, all travel arrangements went well. We spent yesterday in airports or aeroplanes, with a nine hour flight from Heathrow to Detroit, a three hour stopover, and then a six and a half hour flight to Anchorage. We collected the bike from the Delta Cargo depot this morning, the staff were very helpful and we cleared Customs, removed all the packing cases and had the bike back at the hotel within three hours. Total cost to do the inmport paperwork was thirty five dollars not the one hundred and twenty five we were expecting.

Salt Lake City To San Diego

Date of update

We left Salt Lake City late morning on the 11th of September and drove to Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. Antelope Island is reached from a 6 mile causeway that is built in the lake, the Island large enough to feel isolated on a quite day and we spent a couple of hours riding on car free roads enjoying the scenery and the Bison that live on the Island (a herd of about 600). Our only complaint was that it was scorching hot and the only drink we could finf was a soft drinks machine that was out of order.
