Traveling Around Africa by My Car

The customs clearance for Mojave began around 2 a.m. The expected closing time was five a.m. The successful customs clearance was stopped at the Carnet de Passage stage. The reason was this.
"The registered country of the car is Korea and the driver is a Korean"
"But, You got the Carnets de Passage issued from Switzerland?"
Korean cars owned by Koreans could not be cleared with Swiss insurance. Since there was no institution in Korea that issues carnets de Passage, it was a guarantee issued after depositing the deposit with the Swiss issuing agency.
Despite one explanation or another, Egyptian officials did not retract their claims. I even contacted the head of the Nuweiba Customs Service, but he said they couldn't do customs clearance. As I brought Mohave to Egypt and faced the difficulty of customs clearance, I was frustrated, and I couldn't stand it because I was angry with myself. Mohave and I suddenly became the unlucky stars of the port of Nuweiba.
These was the two proposals presented to me by the customs authorities. The first was to park Mojave at the warehouse od harbour Port, and then leave Egypt after finishing the Africa trip. without Vehicle! The second was to leave Egypt immediately with Mohave.", It was about telling me to leave the country.
I sent an email to the touring club in Switzerland. "During customs clearance with the carnet, customs clearance was rejected for one reason or another, I demand a responsible answer from your company.", Their answer has arrived at once within one second. Automatic outgoing mail said "We don't work on holidays so we can take action on your emails as soon as we get to work on Monday." The arrival date was Saturday. It was a matter of overnight trust in Switzerland. and It was time for us to find our own path to apprenticeship
At this time, the top manager in charge of issuing carnet should go through this procedure. We need to get confirmation from the "Egyptian Motor Club". I asked how long it would take to get the confirmation, and they said it would take 3 days. Waffy Ramsay, the customs officer, thankfully said he would come back to Cairo.
"Thank you Ramsay. But it takes too long to make you do it..."
So I called the Korea embassy in Cairo. "We have known it as a normal procedure, but we are unable to clear customs due to abnormal processing. I need your help." after that, not too long, I got a call from the embassy.
"I heard from the Deputy Manager of the Customs Service that formal customs clearance is possible, so can you come to Cairo with Carnets, Car License, passport, and 1,000 in commission?"
I left the port of Nuweiba and took a taxi to Salem El Sheikh Airport,180 kilometers away. And from there, I boarded a plane to Cairo.
Cairo, where arrived at night, was a mess. The city was covered in garbage and cars were driving wildly. The three-lane road became five lanes. At the intersection, the first priority is the one who gets tangled up in front of the car. It was hard to breathe because of the smoke from the Car emissions.
People jumped in here and there whether there was a crosswalk or not. There was also a horse carriage in the driveway. Was there such a mess in the world? There's another one. New Delhi, India..
When things didn't go well, you should cut your hair. I stopped by a barber shop late at night. I left it as a barber, and I cut it very short , It was African style.
Next day, I woke up early in the morning, visited the embassy, and went to the Egypt Customs Service with the senior administrator. There was an Egyptian Moto Club in the building. I asked. "Is this a government agency? or is it a private organization?" It was called a national business agency.
I asked him what I did, and he said he would issue an international driver's license and approve the customs clearance of the vehicle. Then it's a reliable place. The sign above belongs to the Egypt-Japan Friendship Association, which has nothing to do with the Moto Club.
You remember this Coordination <Egyptian Moto Club/Coordinate/ 30.047397, 31.236695> Automobile and Touring Club Of Egypt....
After filling out the document and paying the fee, I got the clearance certificate of the picture above. I didn't even know what it was about. The fee was,1,000 and 67,000 Korean won. It was time to return to the port of Nuweiba, where Mojave was diligently located. The flight was completely sold out when I went to the airport. There seemed to be an important event in Shalam el-Sayk. I went to the Customer Service in Egypt Air and asked if there were any canceled tickets, and they said there were two tickets for the flight that was just leaving. Hurrying up and got on the plane and went back to Shalam El Sheikh.
I took a taxi again and ran 180 kilometers to Nuwei Bar. The taxi fare was 800 dinars which was very cheap, In Korea, It would cost 350,000 Dinars.
After my arriving at Nuweiba Port, I met and talked to Waffi Ramsey, "We got it"
I unpacked my cross-dress at the Cornal Resort, where I could see the port of Nouweiba clearly. This was originally run by Hilton Hotel, but now the operator had changed. The facilities were great and the price was good.
Customs clearance for Mojave would be carried out from the next morning. I went out to the beach after eating. The blue sea of the Red Sea was calm without any waves.
Blue sea. Calm waves, transparency to see the sea, half water and half meat. Oh! This was why it was the Red Sea. If you follow the coastline, you'll get a Dahap.
It was the first time I had seen a winged fish at the end of a floating bridge on the beach. I became very curious about what it would be like in the sea where I could see these fish. Pterois miles, a combination of the Greek word pteron meaning wing and the Latin word miles meaning soldier. A soldier with wings...
The morning had come. I meet Mr. Waffi Lam and entered the port of Nuweiba. Many people recognized and greeted with pleasure. Mojave and the driver who couldn't get out of the port Salam Allaikum. Again, I went around many departments that I didn't even know what I was doing. I went around and say, "If you tell me to pay for the documents, I pay for them."
Finally, Carnet's stamp had been stamped. Now I moved to the department that issues the car registration certificate. For information, Egypt requires vehicles to be registered for vehicles temporarily imported from abroad, and cars must carry Egyptian license plates. Below was the car registration card. The Mojave became a car with dual nationality.
These were not the end, The manager in charge of issuing car registration asked. "Mr. Kim, it's four wheels in your car, isn't it?" "It was two wheels, and sometimes it was four wheels." He dragged the car into the dock and checked the vehicle's lower mission. The bottom line was always four wheels.
This was the Sinai Peninsula. It was a place where anti-government terrorism continued to take place. Mojave went to the security unit because it was a four-wheeler. After inspecting the vehicle again and checking the belongings, the conditions for permission entering in land were as follows.
"Leave Sinai in 24 hours."
It was said that four-wheel-drive cars could not stay in the Sinai Peninsula because they could be transferred to anti-government groups and used for terrorism. They gave me a document to submit it to the last checkpoint on the Sinai Peninsula. It was a document I didn't know what you were talking about.
Mojave's clearance to the continent of Africa was completed by issuing license plates, vehicle registration cards, and signing up for auto insurance after signing documents that comply with the military's principles and regulations. The customs clearance that took three hours was the same as three, and the time changed day by day. It took three days.
Waffy Ramsay said this. "It's Inshala, it's Inshala," and I'm very curious and expected about what's ahead of the African continent where Mojave runs.
Let's start, We're leaving now.
Thank you to the Korea embassies for helping us clear the Mojave. I would like to express my gratitude to the embassy's director and senior administrator Ms.Kim for listening to and helping me with the difficulties even though it was a holiday.
Let's look forward to the next Episode, Thank you...
