Follow this story by emailJaffa Street begins at the Jaffa Gate, the entrance to the Old City, and ends at the String Bridge. It is also the most central and longest street in Jerusalem!
The light rail usually runs the length of the road, but it is highly recommended to enjoy a slow and pleasant walk on it and see the ancient, decorated, and impressive buildings – each of which has its own fascinating story. Walking around the public squares and quiet courtyards on and near the street, or just soaking up the cozy atmosphere of Jaffa Street, it is great fun – with many shops and cafes active during the day, alongside a variety of bars and lively nightlife!
Jaffa Street, formerly Jaffa Road, the exit road from the Old City of Jerusalem to Jaffa’s nearest port city. By the way, a connection of Jerusalem’s with Europe has been by Jaffa port, and it’s a reason why the Jaffa Road was such importance and even at the time made the Jaffa Gate (one of the eight gates in the Old City), as the main entrance gate of the city. As is well known, the Old City of Jerusalem was surrounded by a wall, which can be seen to this day, but when the wall near the Jaffa Gate was breached in the late 19th century, since that time Jaffa Street was wholly connected to the Old Jerusalem City.
