Soft start of RTW - Europe in 2022

Moto-Momentum is James from UK and Steffi from Germany, both living in Portugal.

Over the period of Corona, we decided to start an RTW trip, as our mothers are still healthy and we are sort of young enough to climb in and out of a tent. We opted to do first Europe to see if we like the kind of living on the road, being an Overlander. The original plan was then carried on East over Asia over to Australia and then via America back.

Just one week into our trip, the war in Ukraine started, so we had to adapt our future travel plans, which means Nord- and then via Central- into South America in 2023.

For the first 3 months, we travelled together, but then James had to go back to work, so I headed East-North myself. The first 3 months it was about adapting to being 24/7 together, which went surprisingly well, as we never lived together. After I (Steffi) was left on my own, it was really weird to have no one during the day to talk to over the intercom, to share and to get through all the daily duties. 

It is such a great experience to see the different countries, the different architecture, listen to different languages, see different spelling (languages), touch and deal with different currencies (yes, even still within Europe!), different landscapes, etc. Of course, with James, I did quite a lot of offroad (TET), but on my own, I try to pick the offroad wisely, as lifting the bike on my own, is every time a challenge.

I am coming now closer to the most northern and eastern point of my journey, both in Estonia, and I am really excited about it. And then comes the turn-around point, still with interesting places to visit in Germany, Holland and France - places I always wanted to visit, but never got my head around it! And now I can do it with my beloved BMW F700GS!

I am glad, that our mothers are supporting us in the project as they also think we should see more of the world than the Algarve, Portugal - even though it has lovely beaches and is offroad heaven for dirtbikes!
