Panama - Puente del Mundo

Beach - Panama

Panama - The Bridge to South America. A country literally cut in half by a man made Canal. Home to the infamous and wild Darién Gap. We were looking forward to our last country of Central America.

Kazakstan 2

by mwr09 as part of RTW 2009.

OK, so we left Almaty. Bike in a worse condition than before thanks to the very accomodating but fairly useless mechanics at My Town Moto. The road was very long and flat, you really feel like you're crossing the whole of the country not just nipping up one edge as we were. The scenery looks a little bit like this....

Just got a call this morning saying that all my paperwork has been cleared and that I can go and pick up the bike tomorrow. Whey hey, I'll be able to get on the road soon!

Update

by admin as part of and back....

Moscow!

Another great night's sleep, in spite of the revelation that Richard can't relax if there's a mosquito in the room.

It was 460 kms to Moscow, along the fast single lane M9. This road switches from smooth tarmaced highway, to unsurfaced, grooved tarmac, to bumpy truck rutted lanes. The weather stayed sunny for most of the way, so we made good progress.

Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and PanamaCENTRAL AMERICA

Well – some of it anyway.

That’s really Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama for us.

Seems like a lot to see in just over 3 weeks – but we have been moving slowly – short riding days – and lots of time to enjoy the beaches, mountains, lakes and volcanoes – and the great old towns as well. Towns like Copan Ruinas, Altitlan, Chichicostingango, Granada, and of course Panama City.
These countries are all pretty small and very diverse for such common histories.

Great Expectorations.

by Sime66 as part of Africa 2004, Americas 2008.

31/1/05. Nouakchott.

A very unusual New Year's Eve. Sitting outside in shirt sleeves, drinking pastis, whisky, Heineken and Vin de Pays d'Oc with French people. We eat lobster and duck and I make them listen to AC/DC all night.

Note for ex-colleagues - a Mauritanian sound effects album will need at least the following:

-Squeal of brakes/anguished braying, as yet another euro-banger smacks into a donkey cart.

-Crunch of teeth meeting sand in a mouthful of fish.

... and it's goodbye from him.

by admin as part of 2x2x2 SE USA 2013.

When we started to consider crossing of the USA by Harley Davidson motorcycles, and more recently began planning this trip, we knew we were going to have an adventure, something really special. We hoped it would be worth sharing with family and friends, and that's why we set up this blog.
At times, after a long day, it was a bit of an effort to do the daily blog entry, but it was a good way to consolidate the events of the day, and the "bedtime story" ritual became an event in itself.
