Mountain trails in Lower Silesia, which tourists hardly ever visit
Follow this story by emailThe pandemic in the world has put us in such a situation that we rather plan to spend our free time in places close to our surroundings and avoid crowds. After data taken from Google Analytics, we see that you are looking for attractions in Lower Silesia, which may not knock you to your knees, but guarantee the possibility of staying in nature in peace and quiet without contact with other tourists. That is why we decided to prepare for you a list of mountain trails on which we have practically never met a living soul. The trails, which have their own charm, let you get a little tired, but most of all you can have them practically exclusive!
We hope that our suggestions will appeal to you and you will be able to spend some time outdoors in safe conditions. The entry is specially added before the May Day to tell you about places you may not know, and you would be happy to use them. It is also possible that you will meet us on one of these routes, because we have not yet planned where we will specifically go for this extended May weekend.
Radogost Mountain and nearby Bazaltowa Mountain in the Kaczawskie Foothills
These two peaks are places where we have literally never met a living spirit. They are located on the Kaczawskie Foothills near the village of Paszowice, which is divided by a small valley. So you can visit them in one fell swoop while parking in a quite large parking lot with a recreational area. Both peaks are not characterized by high elevations and can be qualified as easy to pass even with small children. There is a possibility to ride the route by bicycle, so something good for everyone.
Additional advantage of these mountains are view towers placed on their top. Definitely the lookout tower on Radogost provides better views of the surroundings, because the one on the Basalt Mountain is surrounded by tall trees obscuring the view. However, the advantage of Bazaltowa Góra is the lookout point located on the slope of the former basalt quarry excavation. More information can be found on dedicated subpages, where we described both mountains in more detail.
Wilcza Góra with the nearby Krucza Skała and hanging tracks
Another proposition of the trail that we can recommend to you for the whole day is Wilcza Góra together with the Raven Rocks and hanging tracks located near Z這toryja. This inconspicuous and little-known place has won us our favor because it is a little-known and interesting attraction concentrated nearby. We came to Jerzmanice Zdrój because we were looking for hanging tracks, about which we learned from one of the accounts on Instagram. We immediately began to mirror the area in search of other interesting places nearby. It turned out that you don't have to look far, because right across the street there are Krucze Skały and one kilometer further on the Z這toryja border there is an entrance to Wilcza Gora. What can you expect from this little trip? The hanging tracks will surely be of interest to all of you, because it is a really unusual view, where the railroad traction hangs a dozen or so meters above the river and there is a bridge with no ground. So if you are traveling with children we recommend to choose a side route from which you will be able to observe the hanging tracks. The Raven Rocks will provide you with extensive views of the surrounding area and let you lose some energy by climbing the rocks. In addition, there is a place where you can pitch a small camp and regenerate your strength. Wilcza Góra is a place that we have mentioned several times in our Social Media. We were very moved by the information that despite the bans, the quarry continued its work, causing the collapse of the slope of the mountain, which is one of the representatives of the extinct volcanoes in Lower Silesia. Additionally, from its top you can see wonderful views of the surroundings.
Trójmorski Wierch near Śnieżnik
A trail that can be besieged a little more than the ones mentioned above, but is a really interesting alternative to take a longer mountain tour where you can get tired. Tri-City Wierch is located near another popular attraction - Trails in the Clouds in Lower Morava. Our trail is described from Lower Moravia, but since the border with the Czech Republic is now closed, you can go there from Jodlov. At the top of the Tricity Hill, in addition to beautiful panoramic views of the area, you will also find a tall, wooden lookout tower.
Route to Valigora through the Great Forest and the Great cone
The route was completed with a group of friends and we met almost no one else. We started the route ourselves from Unisław Śląski and it was about 20 kilometers long, so it is a route that is practically all day long. Since these were winter months, we had to shorten our trail and skip the entrance to the Grand Cone, but in the summer we could do the whole loop. The trail is already a bit more demanding and due to its length you have to have good physical condition reserves. The trail offers really interesting views and along the way you can see interesting ruins of a former sanatorium where people with tuberculosis were treated. To sum up, it takes about 7 hours to walk the whole route, so this is an idea for a day trip, after which you will surely sleep well at home.
Radkowskie Rocks in the Table Mountains
Radkowskie Skały is a place I have known since childhood. It is located in the Table Mountains just 16 kilometers from Duszniki Zdroj - the place where I was born. It is quite a little known attraction on the tourist map of Lower Silesia, so you should not meet many people on its route. So if you like to visit interesting rock formations and you want to come a little bit over the mountains, this is the place for you. Depending on the time and physical condition you can plan different routes for yourself, because there are several looped routes on Radkowskie Skały. In our opinion it is an interesting attraction for both children and adults.
The Kaczawskie Mountains Circle
The Kaczawskie Mountains are often overlooked by tourists visiting Lower Silesia, and in our opinion this is a mistake because these low and inconspicuous mountains hide many charming places. One of them is Mount Okole, which we climbed in winter in the middle of my pregnancy. We were looking for a route that would be relatively easy and interesting to walk on. All this, and even more, has the Okole, because on its top there is a viewing platform showing beautiful views of the area. Unfortunately, we were not given it, because during our trip the panorama was bathed in dense fog and we did not manage to see too much. Nothing was lost, because we will certainly return to this route with little Leos when he grows a little and starts his adventure with the mountains.
Anvil and the Redoubt in the Golden Mountains
Mount Kowadło and Rudawiec are one of the peaks that we reached during the realization of the Crown of Polish Mountains. This is probably the only reason why we discovered it on the map of the mountains of Lower Silesia. Both of these peaks are a good example of why it is worthwhile to participate in the collection of mountain decorations such as the Crown of Polish Mountains or the Crown of the Sudetes. Thanks to that we discover little-known peaks, which tourists rather do not visit and on the trail we can see only local or other lovers of decoration collection.
The peaks are close to each other and can be conquered in one fell swoop during less than 5 hours of mountain walking. The route is considered to be easy to get, but if you are going to walk with children it will be a slight challenge for them, because you have to walk about 13 kilometers. The trail is located near Stronie Śląskie in the Kłodzko Valley.
Kalenica in the Owl Mountains
Kalenica is the peak that we had the opportunity to climb in winter and we managed to get lost on it and almost lost in the dark. Whenever we mention it, we smile under our noses, because it was one of our trips that we qualified for our Top Bummers. However, the route itself is not difficult to complete, and in summer it should be within reach of people even in poor physical condition. At the top of the mountain there is a beautiful metal observation tower, which provides many interesting views of the Owl Mountains panorama. The whole route from the Woliborska Pass should take no more than 3 hours.
The route from Duszniki Zdrój to Wolarz
The route to Wolarz was realized during a weekend stay in Duszniki Zdroj. Most of the routes leading from this town are behind us, so we searched for lesser known trails and that is how we came across the trail of Wolarz. The summit itself is located in the depths of the forest and there is practically no view on it. The route provides a few beautiful viewpoints along the way, so the whole thing looks good. Wandering on Wolarz's trail in the summer we came across a few tourists, but as it turned out after a short conversation they were mostly locals. So if you do not know this area and you want to go to the mountains, Wolarz may positively surprise you. We marked our way back through the PTTK "Muflon" hostel, towering over Duszniki Zdrój. There is a beautiful panoramic terrace overlooking my hometown, so I highly recommend to visit Muflon when you come back.
The whole route from Duszniki Zdrój is a matter of a few hours. We calmly completed it in 6 hours, during which we covered 15 kilometers. Despite the relatively small hills to climb is about 800 meters and one of the approaches really gets to the bone.
Nature reserve Peat bog near Zieleniec
Being already at the topic of Duszniki Zdrój, we recommend you to visit another place that I appreciate very much. It is a peatbog located by Zieleniec. This beautiful place is famous for its beautiful flowering white woollen carpets, which at the time of bloom flood the peat bog with a distinctive red. The trail itself is easy to implement and will surely appeal to children. While visiting the peatbog we can also climb the observation tower and observe nature from above. The whole trip is a very pleasant nature lesson and a chance to get to know the extraordinary ecosystem of wetlands and the vegetation that grows on it.
We hope that the above list will be useful for this year's May and future trips and will protect you from crowds of people on the trails. Moreover, underneath we add a map with the places we describe, so that you can plan your route more easily. Let us know which proposal you liked the most.
