City of Berat

The old town of Mangalem District is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Diverse architecture is found throughout the city known as "The City of a Thousand Windows" because of the many windows that overlook the town. Narrow streets, Orthodox churches, and Turkish houses can be seen. The Church of St. Mary of Blachernae dates back to the 13th century. The Bachelor’s Mosque was built in 1827 and the Lead Mosque is in the centre of the town. Berat Castle can be reached from the south.
