Built in the 4th century, this fortress is also known as "The Silver Fortress", the biggest and best preserved building in Albania. It was built at the top of a hill overlooking the Drinos Valley. The historic town built up around the fortress and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Museum City". The architecture is unique to the area with houses of three floors and a slate roof. These were built in the style of a Turkish dwelling known as a kule. The town is also known as "Stone City" due to these buildings.
