Extending from Buenos Aires, this flat grassland area stretches for hundreds of miles with wheat, soya, and cattle raised on the fertile plain. There are, however, many things to see with many small towns preserving the traditional way of life. The birth place of the Argentinian cowboy (gaucho) with many ranches (estancia) to welcome visitors. You get to savour the wild west of the past. There are several nature reserves in the area and the Lihué Calel National Park, but this is fairly difficult to reach. Flamingos can be seen in the great salt lakes.
