A Jesuit Reduction was a settlement created by the Jesuit Order for the native people of the country during the 17th and 18th centuries. They were constructed by the Guarian people during the colonial phase of the Spanish rulers as centres of Christian teaching and education. They also ensured that taxation and government of the people would be more efficient. As a UNESCO World Heritage site these ruins are one of the most awe inspiring historical sites in Argentina.|http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/275/multiple=1&unique_number=326
