Carnaval de Oruro

This amazing carnival takes place every year just before Ash Wednesday. It is recognised by UNESCO as one of the "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity". It is one of the most important events in South America with thousands of dancers, bands, and musicians. A parade with folk dancers takes place. The festivities end with two medieval-style plays.
