The Okapi Wildlife Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where there are a variety of birds and 52 mammals. Mammals include okapi, water chevrotain, leopard, African golden cat, Anubis baboon, giant ground pangolin, pygmy antelope, bush pig and the giant forest hog. Over 300 varieties of birds may be seen, including black spinetail and the endemic yellow-legged weaver, lyre-tailed honeyguide, spot-breasted ibis, long-tailed hawk, black guinea fowl, sandy scops owl, black-collared lovebird, Bedford's paradise flycatcher, and the golden-naped weaver.
