A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this park covers an area of 790,000 hectares. The park protects the eastern steppe species and tropical rain forest. Along the banks of the rivers there are many species of wildlife, including buffalo, elephant, antelope, hippopotamus, lion, water hog and monkeys. Birds from Siberia spend the winter here. The park has a wide variety of habitats ranging from steppes to swamps, savannahs on the edge of the volcanoes and lava plains.
