A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this market place houses many buildings dating back to the 13th century. The town hall was built in the Gothic style. The famous 30-foot statue of Roland, bearing the Sword of Justice and a shield with the imperial eagle, was erected in 1404. Every December, the city centre is converted to a large Christmas market with over 170 stalls. Music festivals are also held throughout the year.
