Schwangau

Built in the 19th century, this fairy-tale castle was Walt Disney’s inspiration for the castle depicted in Sleeping Beauty. The alabaster walls, high towers, spiral staircases, and wide parapets are built on a rugged hill above the small village of Hohenschwangau with the backdrop of the stunning Bavarian Alps. Built by Ludwig 2nd of Bavaria, it was opened to the public after his mysterious death in 1886 and has attracted millions of visitors since then.
