The largest annual beer festival in the world is celebrated for 16-18 days from late September to the first weekend of October. Oktoberfest beer is brewed locally by a few breweries, is extra strong, and served in one-litre (2.1 pints) mugs called "Mass". Vast quantities of local and traditional food may also be enjoyed. It is said that the crowds rival the attendance at the Rio Carnival.
