Säätse Saba - a road through Russia

Due to a mapping mix-up and an unresolved border treaty, a stretch of road between two villages in South Estonia traverses Russian territory. There is no passport control, but the road is under video surveillance by border guards from both countries, and vehicles are allowed to pass between Lutepää and Sesniki as long as they do not stop; foot traffic is prohibited. (Bicycles are allowed as long as you don't set your foot down on the ground!)

This area is also known as Setomaa, the home of a culturally distinct community within South Estonia. The village of Säätse has a museum of Seto culture.

You will most likely have to turn around and go back through Russia again, although there is a gravel road that takes you to the major Koidula/Pechory border crossing.
