These two magnificent temples were built over a 36-year period as a commemoration by Ramses the Second for himself and his wife, Nefertari. A UNESCO World Heritage Site with immense statues and carvings, the whole complex was moved to its current location before the construction of the Aswan dam in the 1960s. Visitors cannot drive to the site due to police concerns of security. A bus trip from Aswan can be taken or hire a car with a local driver.
