A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aksum's ruins marked the centre of ancient Ethiopia. Dating from the 1st and 13th centuries, these massive ruins include royal tombs, castle ruins, obelisks and giant stelae. It is the holiest city within Ethiopia.
