A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is one of a few "Slave Castles" in Ghana. Originally built by Swedish traders who were trading in timber and gold, it served as a market place where the locals exchanged gold and mahogany for clothing, spices, sugar, silk, and blankets. Years later, the building was adapted for holding slaves prior to transportation across the Atlantic Ocean.
