Lake Volta is the largest man-made reservoir in the world and covers an area of 3,275 square miles. It is contained behind The Akosombo Dam. 78,000 people and 200,000 animals were relocated before the area was flooded. A passenger boat runs from Akosombo to Yeji (south to north) every Monday and takes about 24 hours. The boat is often referred to as "The Yam Boat" as many vegetables and livestock are transported within.
