Meteora

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, these extraordinary pinnacles were formed millions of years ago and are formed into spikes, cliffs, and cones. One thousand feet above ground level, there are monasteries perched on top of the rock towers. These were initially accessed by rope or nets, but now there are steps that have been hewn out of the rock face. The monasteries may be visited throughout the day.
