Market at Chichicastenango

Sundays and Thursdays are the days for what is said to be the Americas' most colourful market. Vendors arrive to set up portable booths the night before and then settle to sleep beside their stall. Vegetables, pottery, candles, medicinal plants, tools, animals, and clothing are for sale – the list is endless. Firecrackers are set off at random throughout the day which adds to the sight, smell, and colour of this famous event with the locals wearing traditional dress.
