Banjarmasin

This delta island is known as the "River City" and has been compared to Venice. The city is built around waterways that are prone to flooding; therefore, many houses are built on rafts or stilts over the waterways. A boat trip takes you to the floating market which is on the western side of town. The town is also renowned as a centre for the trading of precious stones such as rubies and diamonds.
