20.551849, 75.702562

These 30 Buddhist cave temples and monasteries were hand-hewn out of the solid rock face and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The caves are decorated with frescoes, some of which date from the 2nd century BC-AD and show events in the life of prince Gautama Buddha, the founder of this religion and the Jatakas stories which tell of Buddha's previous incarnation. The caves date from around 200 BC to 650 AD, although were only found in the 19th century.
