Date of my visit

My wife and I arrived at the Dead Sea on the North West side wishing to experience the lake.

We paid approx. £20 to enter the Kalia beach, get changed and walk down the numerous steps to the water. The lake is draining at a rapid rate per annum, therefore it’s quite a way down.

This area of lake is cordoned off by a rope on floats, the water is brown due to the throngs of tourists stirring it up. It stinks of sulphur and the floor is contaminated with bricks and rubble.

It was the worst experience of our whole trip, and that includes our hotel At Ashqelon being in numerous rocket attacks emanating from the Gaza.

There are better places around the Sea to have the “Floating experience “ but not this one.

If thinking of entering the Sea from the side of the road, 1.  Most of the sea is very dangerous to get to due to sinkholes and deep mud. 2. Should you find a safe area to float, then you certainly will need a stream or shower to rinse the gloopy salt from your skin.
