Luang Prabang New Year Celebrations

April 14th is the last day of the Laos year and images of Buddha are washed. This water is considered to be blessed which has led to the celebrations on New Year’s Day when water fights take place all over the country. However, one of the best celebrations is said to be in Luang Prabang where there is a parade, music, dancing, much water-throwing, a pageant, and sandcastle-building on the banks of the Mekong River. The celebrations here last for nearly a week.
