The Curonian Spit

This dramatic landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as "The Sahara of Lithuania". The sweeping sand dunes, a beautiful coastline, and pine forests are within a national park that stretches for almost 100 km, a part of which is in Russia. In charming small villages, fisherman still smoke their catch using traditional methods. Bird-watchers congregate here in spring and autumn as millions of migratory birds pass through.
