This chain of survey triangulations, conducted during the 1800s, stretches from Norway to the Black Sea. It gave the first accurate measurement of a long section of a meridian which helped to establish the exact size and shape of the earth. Latvia’s station points are at Sestu-Kalns (Ziestu) and Jacobststd, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
