The Medina in Fez (Fes el Bali)

This yellow-walled Medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a maze of alleys (probably within the region of 290 km) and 9,500 streets. Notoriously difficult to navigate, it is recommended that you have a guide. The scents, sounds, and sights are an assault on the senses with tanneries, spice markets, mosques, dye pits, rug merchants, palaces, and madrassas. In early June there is the Fez World Sacred Music Festival held within the city.
