This escarpment is home to 700 Dogon villages which preserve the traditions from nearly 700 years ago. Homes are carved out of the cliffs and blend so well with their rocky surroundings that they can hardly be seen. Within the villages can be seen a unique culture, including masked dances and local art. Every spring the Fêtes des Masques festival is held here. The escarpment continues for 200 km.
