Banc d'Arguin National Park

A nature reserve that protects natural resources and the fishing waters which are among the richest in the western area of Mauritania. The park is a major breeding site for migrating birds and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pelicans, flamingos, terns, billed sandpipers, and cormorants are part of the estimated two million birds that seek shelter here. Local tribesmen live in seven villages and fish using traditional methods.
