Chingguetti

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this Islamic holy city is part of the Adrar Massif and may be reached only by a car from Atar or a tourist bus from Homogjar through the mountain pass. Check that government permission may be needed before entering the Adrar region. The city is small, but has a medieval mosque and a library which houses ancient manuscripts. There are no banks or places to change money, no restaurants or cafes and minimal shops.
