This route has plenty of stream crossings and it is closed in the winter months, opening day is usually 1 Sept but this year it was still very tough in there and access from the North (Bannockburn) was difficult due to ice on the steep access road. In the summer this is a must do adventure track of aproximately 70km to get to the main road south of Garston if going North to South, fuel at the North end is at Cromwell and at the South end is at Garston. Cell phones do not work all the way through the valley and there are very few people living in the valley so go in there prepared.
