Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove

This is one of the last sacred forests. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is part of the traditional culture of the Yoruba. Situated within the site are 40 shrines, many sculptures, and two palaces. The Osun-Osogbo Festival is celebrated each August where thousands of visitors and Osun worshippers attend the celebrations of the traditional cleansing of the city and the cultural reunion with their ancestors. A sacred 500-year-old lamp with 16 points is lit.
