León Cathedral

12.434723, -86.878093

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the country’s third cultural landmark and is the largest cathedral in Central America. The construction took 67 years to complete and it was designed to maximize the use of natural light within the sombre interior. The vault within the sanctuary, however, is rich with decor and there are numerous works of art to be seen. There are seven tunnels which connect to other churches in the city, three of which are partially open to visitors.
