Bryggen - the Hanseatic Wharf

The distinctive red-and-ochre façades of the wooden-gabled warehouses and hostelries contribute to the town’s nickname of The Wooden City. These old harbour buildings, with narrow alleyways, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are one of the well-known medieval settlements in the country. The Hanseatic Museum and Schotstuene (Assembly Rooms) offer an overall picture of the life of a Hanseatic merchant.
