Historic Centre of Lima

Founded in 1535 by a Spanish conquistador, this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with many buildings celebrating the Spanish Baroque architecture. Building include the basilica and convent of San Francisco, three churches, five cloisters, catacombs, and a library. Among the important plazas is the Plaza de Armas containing the Archbishop’s Palace, which is recognised as the symbol of Lima. The Torre Tagle Palace is now the base for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
