The week-long festivities commence on June 24th and celebrate the sun god, Inti. Street fairs, music, dancing, and exhibitions attract many tourists. In the evenings, the main square is the venue for concerts by leading Peruvian musicians. The main celebration takes place on the first day when ornately-dressed actors represent historical figures. A procession takes place from The Temple of the Sun to the Fortress of Sacsayhuamán. At sundown, bales of straw are set alight with the participants dancing around them. The final procession then proceeds back to Cusco.
