Dating back to the 5th century BC to the 2nd century AD, this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area reflects the fact that it was a Buddhist training centre and fortifications, buildings, monasteries, and settlements are situated along the ancient streets. At the nearby site of Dharmarajika, there is a stupa where, local custom states, tooth fragments from Buddha were buried.
